In the late 1990s we bought an exhausted, steep-sided clay pit 60 metres deep, with no soil, 15 metres below the water table, and essentially gave it life. Into it we brought a huge diversity of plants that we use every day but often don’t get to see, planted in soil made from ‘waste’ materials, watered by the rain, in giant conservatories and buildings that drew inspiration from nature.
Our vision was to create a place like nothing anyone had ever seen before; a place that explored our place in nature, a place that demonstrated what could be done if people who wanted to make a difference got together.
Eden is home to a vast collection of incredible plants. On your visit you can explore wild lands and natural landscapes, verdant rainforests, Mediterranean hillsides, North American prairies and Wild Chile. Meet the world’s crops and discover stories from the people who grow them. And get loads of inspirational ideas for your own garden.
“ There's always something different to see and discover. ”

These broad-ranging installations are inspired by social and environmental narratives such as climate change, biodiversity and the vital relationship between global communities and natural resources.
This exhibition by internationally acclaimed British artist and Turner Prize nominee Cornelia Parker will be on display at the Eden Project between May and November 2024, showcasing an extraordinary film installation that explores the future through the eyes of primary school children.
Our Biomes are brought to life by our team of Explainers and Tale Makers every day, and we offer a variety of free guided tours and self-led trails to help you uncover the incredible stories of our plants and gardens.
The food we serve in our cafés reflects the stories we tell. Our food is responsibly sourced, fairly traded, single-source, seasonal, freshly made and local (including our own Eden-grown produce).
